DECIDING ON YOUR WEDDING STATIONERY.
First impressions definitely last and your wedding invitations are your guests first
impression of your wedding day. They will prepare your guests for the tone of your wedding
by introducing them to its formality, theme and colours. Therefore it is very important you
select the invitations that are just right for you.
There are a few important things you need to consider when making the right decision about
your perfect wedding invitations.
WEDDING THEME: Deciding on a theme for your wedding day allows you to then choose
items that will
match
in with this theme and therefore tie your entire day together.
You may decide on a rainforest wedding, beach wedding, garden wedding, vineyard wedding
or even a nautical wedding. When you have decided on a theme you can then introduce this
to your guests through your invitations.
You may be having a celebrant marrying you outside in a beautiful garden and you can
carrying this garden wedding theme through your wedding stationery with a floral invitation
matching your bouquet.
If you are having your wedding in a tropical destination like Fiji or a Queensland Island, you could convey this tropical theme by the use of bright tropical flowers like frangipanis or
orchids on your wedding invitations.
A vineyard theme can be combined into your wedding invitations with the use of an entwining
grape vine and a nautical theme could be illustrated simply with the use of a single shell.
Poppiseed Designs provides an array of themes for a range of weddings, but if you can not
find a match for your particular wedding theme, please contact us and we would be happy to
try and help.
WEDDING STYLE: When have decided on the theme of your wedding day you will also
need to think
about what style of wedding you would like. Regardless of where your
wedding is, you may
want it to be a lavish formal affair, or maybe just an informal, casual
gathering of close
family and friends. When you decide on the style of your wedding you will
need to convey
this to your guests with your wedding invitations. Your guests will then feel
confident about
what to expect on the day and that they will be dressed appropriately.
An elaborate, formal affair can be conveyed through invitations like our Chantilly Lace,
Simple Lines or Maddison range.
A semi-formal occasion provides you with a wide range
of options in invitations like our
Serenity, Lilly Lush or Cherry Blossom.
If you are having a more casual wedding, your wedding invitations could be Daisy Fields or
Blush.
WEDDING COLOURS: When you have decided on the colours for your wedding day you
can then
co-ordinate the entire event using these colours.
Your colours may be light pastels to match your pastel rose bouquet, earthly greens and
browns for a vineyard or country wedding, soft and elegant whites for a romantic wedding
or simply bold black and white for a formal affair. These colours can be carried through
your bridesmaids dresses, the floral bouquets, chair covers, the wedding cake and then
tied together with your matching wedding stationery like place cards, service booklets, table
numbers, menus, bombonieres and most definitely your wedding invitations.
Here at Poppiseed Designs we try to cater for a wide range of tastes in colours and offer a
variety of colour options across range of invitations. We also will happily colour match if you
would like to provide a swatch of your bridesmaids dress material or anything else you
would like your invitation colours to co-ordinate with.
Addressing Your Guests : When you have decided on an invitation that is suited to you,
then you will need to think about your guests and the information you would like to provide for them.
The Guest List: Compiling a guest list is not an easy task. It may be easier if the bride and
groom compile a separate list each with the help of their respective families and then sit
down together and combine the lists.
As common courtesy, invitations should still be sent to family or friends even if you know
they can not attend, they then have the opportunity to send a telegram or gift if they wish to
do so.
You should always order extra invitations to cover any guests you may have forgotten or
were unsure of, or you may have some guests unable to attend and can therefore have
some extra room to invite someone else. Poppiseed Designs recommends you order at
least 3-5 blank invitations.
The appropriate form of address for your wedding invitations does depend on the formality
of the occasion. If your invitations are of a casual nature then the format can be anything you
like. But, as a general rule, on the wedding invitation you use first names only and in full
(Melissa not Mel), and full names on the envelopes (James & Melissa Jones). If your
wedding is a more formal occasion you can use titles when addressing the envelopes
(Mr, Mrs, Miss, Dr, Prof) and you can use the man’s initial or first name for married couples
(Mr & Mrs Jones, Mr & Mrs A. Jones or Mr & Mrs Andrew Jones).
If you are inviting a family you can use the family name on both the invitation and envelope
(The Jones Family), or you can individually name each family member on the invite and
then
the family name or parents names on the envelope (The Jones Family or Mr & Mrs Jones).
What to include
There are various items that can be included with your wedding invitations to help guests
with information about the wedding day.
Save the date: A save the date is used to notify out of town guests of your up coming
wedding and give them time to make accommodation and travel arrangements. These
can
be sent to your guests up to a year in advance if necessary, but are usually posted
out 4 to 5 months in advance of your wedding date.
RSVP: Generally you include an RSVP card so your guests can easily notify you of their
attendance or non-attendance by filling this card out and posting it back to you.
Gift Registry / Wishing well: It is very popular to include a gift registry, wishing well or
honeymoon card to help your guests make the appropriate gift selection. A gift registry card
informs your guests about stores where you have placed an official gift list for them to
choose from. Wishing well cards are becoming more popular as a large amount of couples
are breaking with tradition and setting up a home together prior to marriage. The bridal
couple can use a wishing well or honeymoon card to tastefully explain to their guests they
would prefer money, that they can put towards an item they need or their honeymoon.
Accommodation Card: An accommodation card or map can be included to help out of town
guests find appropriate accommodation. You can save your guests the trouble of searching
for accommodation by supplying the name and details of a few hotels within a convenient
distance of your ceremony. |
